The rule that God gave the people
was, "Don't eat fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you do, you
will die." The people thought this was totally unfair.
There was this snake guy who also was hanging out in the garden. He was like a real bad pusher, and he wanted to get the people hooked on this stuff called sin. One day the people were partying with the snake guy, and he convinced them to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Well, they did it. They ate the fruit. When they ate the fruit it showed that they didn't trust God. They thought he was denying them something they would dig. This really messed up their relationship with God.
Genesis 2:16 "And the Lord God commanded the man,"You are free to eat
from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Genesis 3:6 "When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and
pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She
also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it."
