We Raise Organically Grown Dental Floss

In 1975, while listening to a Frank Zappa record, we were inspired to move to Yellow Snow, Montana, to start a dental floss farm. We are, of course, strictly organic. No nasty chemicals are used on our farm.

Not many people realize how many chemicals you are putting in your mouth when you use commercial dental floss. We forgot the names of them, but we know they're really bad. In a 14 1/3 month double-blind study at Yazoo River Community College, it was found that daily flossing led to the deaths of 15 out of 16 fruit flies. The report doesn't mention the cause, but we're sure it had to be due to the chemicals used in commercial floss production.

We use exclusively natural fertilizer. Our neighbor happens to have a ranch with about 500 head of cattle. As you know, you put stuff (grass) in one end of a cow and it comes out the other in slightly altered form. We quickly realized that our neighbor's waste products could be used as an all-natural fertilizer on our dental floss fields. When you use our organically grown floss, you will rest assured that you are putting an all-natural product between your teeth.

We also found that methane acts as a catalyst in bonding the wax to the floss. As you know, cows also produce considerable amounts of methane from their non-business end, which causes global warming and other bad stuff. We devised a system using simple household items, such as broomsticks, plastic sandwich bags, and the little twistie things that come on bread bags to harvest methane from cows. Each morning, after the cows have had breakfast, we spend about one hour in our neighbor's pasture, and are able to harvest enough methane for the day's floss production. So when you use our all-natural floss you will also be helping to save the global ecosystem.

We know, now you're saying, “Well, what about the wax? Isn't that made of chemicals?” No, man! Did you ever wonder what happens to all the ear wax that doctors remove from their patients? Well, we got to wondering about that one day, and we discovered that it's all thrown away. Well, of course we realized that we could recycle this product by using it on our dental floss. What's better is that it improves the biodegradability of our floss. Cool!

Coming soon in this space: hints for recycling dental floss.
